Let’s talk about what the words “group mind” mean, as well as its’ relationship to interpersonal psychic effects. To speak intelligently on such matters though, it’s important to first understand that there’s a wide-spread denial of these subjects in this culture. This is a depth of understanding which most people underestimate all the time, and when you think about it, that’s very strange and bizarre.
It’s strange because group mind/psychic effects are such every-day things. There is no day which passes, no moment in fact, in which every person in the world does not FEEL the influence of other people in their lives at a very deep level of their being. But in Western culture, there is a very strong denial of nature and natural laws, especially with regard to the felt reality of life. Feelings are denied just as psychic effects are given no credence, (other than through such superficial nonsense as modern astrology, that is).
To give you an idea of what I mean, I once had a fellow write me saying that he thought the WMS Group Mind Meditations were bunk. He said it was all nonsense because the entire practice was based upon the false notion that there even is such a thing as psychic effects between people. This struck me as very odd because it’s like denying the act of breathing, by claiming the body doesn’t need oxygen.
So I wrote back saying, “Group mind, or person to person psychic influence is a part of daily life. Haven’t you ever been in love and felt the good intent of another? Haven’t you felt the anger of another person when having an argument, or the fear of someone in your presence? Everyone knows that when you walk into a room of strangers, (or friends, even more so) that it’s common practice to “feel the vibes” of that place and know right away what the intent/mood of the crowd is. Anyone who has ever been to a protest or debate knows about the “heated tensions in the air” as differences of opinion are exchanged. Everyone has felt the “atmosphere” of a party or music concert shift up and down as the intent/mood of the crowd shifted. Any woman, (or man) can feel the sexual interest of the opposite sex, even from across a crowded room. Anyone who has ever been in a relationship, even with a pet, knows that an exchange of feeling-energy occurs between themselves and others. Anybody with even an ounce of awareness knows that there is a distinct difference in feeling between the vibes of the downtown area of a large city, and that of a remote, old growth forest.”
Of course, the guy didn’t write back…the skeptics never do. There’s something extremely odd about the denial-mode of Western materialism when it comes to such things, and this needs to be addressed to put things in perspective. This denial is ironic, since the West is heavily Christian, and most Christians have little difficulty accepting such nonsense as “the world/universe was created in seven days, and the Earth is only about 8-10,000 years old” according to “Bible scholars”. They believe in “resurrections”, “miracles”, and an all-creating, middle-aged caucasion-male God, residing in the clouds and dressed in Greek fashion, but they can’t handle the simple idea of person-to-person psychic effects. This 10,000 year old Earth idea they believe despite all the evidences of science, especially geology, archeology and biology. So evidently, the fantastic is not at issue…there’s something more going on here which deserves analysis.
I believe that the wide-spread denial of psychic effect between people, (especially group mind, or collective consciousness types of effects) is due to the fact that the West is based upon rather “evil” intentions, (non-evolutionary, digressive, unnatural, entropic and selfish) such as unlimited greed and cutthroat competitiveness. It’s based upon a deep suspicion and even hatred of nature, (which includes the body) and that is why forests and streams are viewed as mere stockpiles of resources, why health is seen as something that results from a surgeons’ scalpel and the pharmacists’ pill. It’s why all plants are cut down so casually in yards and other places, and others are made into unnatural cubes, and lawns are manicured to the point of looking like artificial astro-dome turf. It’s why the use of herbs, right diet, meditation and natural exercise are viewed with contempt by the majority, why sex is seen as “bad”, or sexual energy is used in unnatural ways. It’s also why choking perfumes/colognes are seen as preferable to the normal smells of the body. My point on this is that in the West, psychic, person-to-person influences are as much in denial as are the common attitudes about the body and about nature. They are NATURAL, and like all other things natural in this culture, they are viewed as something to be denied, suppressed, surgically removed and denounced. But perhaps more importantly, “vibes” are not acknowledged in Western culture because few people want to admit what goes on in society at the feeling/psychic level. Apart from the fact that they want to deny their own feelings, (by taking alcohol, Prozac, not wanting to look within, and so-forth) it’s definitely not “polite” to point out the all-too-obvious fact that most people are constantly in psychic battle with one another every day. It is considered better to smile politely, than to “get real” about what’s really going on. Competitiveness is not just at the physical or psychological level, it is even more prominent at the feeling, nervous system-to-nervous system level of daily interaction. Nobody wants to admit that society has basically turned evil, and so, they are very reluctant to accept what is most obvious about this, at the “gut-level” of being.
Group mind is a felt thing. It exists at ALL levels of human society from the relationship of two people, to groups, neighborhoods, cities, regions, countries and even the entire world. What I call “the World Mind” is really just a global extension of the group mind principle, which is that…”any group of two or more people of similar intention or feeling-states are resonant with one another, creating an energetic link between them that is mutually co-creating”. Here’s where we come to yet another reason for denial of psychic effects in society. The World Mind, or collective consciousness of humanity, is so filled with fear and pain in the modern world that it is admittedly hard for the sensitive person to sometimes bear. So if one is not armed with some knowledge of meditation, (and preferably a keen self-awareness of what feelings and even thoughts are not of their own making) then life can seem a bit harsh indeed, at the feeling level of life. People grossly underestimate this World Mind, (global) and local group mind, (personal family, friends, acquaintances and co-workers) psychic effect, on every moment of their lives. This is predictable, since without meditation and a desire to “know thyself”, strong feelings and repeating thoughts come and go seemingly at random. Yet they are NOT random, and it is quite possible to clearly know what thoughts and feelings are ones’ own making and which are not, even as a moment-to-moment proportion.
A study of the chakras is also useful in this regard. It is in these energy centers where psychic streams of sub-atomic energy are primarily sent from person to person. If you focus your awareness on the feelings in these, even upon passing a person in the street, you can immediately tell the type of intention they have and where in their bodies it is primarily sent from. The sad fact of the modern world is that it doesn’t have to be this way. The world need not be drowning in its’ own pain and fear. Just as a given person can INTEND INTO PLACE the state of consciousness of their own choosing at any moment, so too could entire groups, cities, nations and humanity as a whole. We could readily create a world that is always high in feeling, deep in perception and clarity, wise in relations and ecstatic in every moment. But to accomplish this, the wide-spread denial of all things natural, spiritual and psychic, are going to have to be addressed head-on, and addressed honestly. The values of self knowledge and spiritual unfoldment will have to replace those currently dominating society, which are greed without end, competition without purpose and acquisition without limit. THEN and ONLY THEN will humanity be able to pull out of the current downward spiral into mass death upon which it currently travels. With these values in place, we can then begin to educate others as to the subtleties of this inner knowledge, which could accurately be called, “the science of consciousness”. Group mind and psychic effects are based upon the natural laws that make consciousness do what it does. We ARE consciousness, (intent, awareness and energy) at the most basic level of our being, but to know this, the modern mind has to get out of the way. It has to be reconditioned and made naturally sane once more.
Through the science of consciousness, or “the principles of group mind, rightly applied”, people could in groups as small as two, take an entirely different approach to life together. They could cooperate psychically, instead of being antagonistic, competitive or dishonest. Of course, there’s no precedent for this in modern culture. If things are going to fundamentally change, WE have to set a new precedent, (“If not us then who, and if not now then when?”). Good feelings like love, joy and all manner of high states will have to replace the current norm. These can be exchanged mutually and built up together without limitation, if only each of us will cultivate them within, (through the intent to do so). With group mind knowledge, (such as what is described in the World Mind Society Library http://www.eoni.com/~visionquest) , this can be done. But without knowledge of the science of consciousness, without self knowledge and psychic knowledge rightly applied, humanity doesn’t have a snowballs’ chance in hell of ever righting the current course of self destruction it is on. This is exactly why I want the WMS writings to be carefully considered by any person who can read. I want these principles and subtleties of consciousness applied. They NEED to be acknowledged seriously, for the good of every human being, so I implore you and others to take these matters seriously.
